How to play Battleship
Place a fleet, call a coordinate, and use each result to find the ships hidden across the opposing grid.
01 Place your fleet
Each player places five ships on a 10 × 10 grid. The fleet has one carrier (5 spaces), one battleship (4), one cruiser (3), one submarine (3), and one destroyer (2). Ships lie horizontally or vertically and cannot overlap; touching is allowed.
02 Call a coordinate
Players take turns choosing one coordinate on the opponent’s grid. In a match against the computer, choose a square on the target board. In a private friend match, the game manages whose turn it is. A hit earns another shot, including when that hit sinks a ship; a miss passes the turn.
03 Read the result
A shot at an unoccupied square is a miss. A shot on a ship is a hit. Keep track of the coordinates you have tried and use the pattern of hits to work out a ship’s direction.
04 Sink the fleet
A ship is sunk when every square it occupies has been hit. Sink all five ships in the opposing fleet to win the match.
